The city of Winnenden and the community foundation founded the “Apple Money” campaign with many volunteers more than 10 years ago. The background is to pick up apples that would otherwise remain lying. In autumn, children’s and youth groups move to the orchard meadows in the district of Winnenden and pick up fallen apples. At the end of September, 40 tonnes were picked up by the “Apples Collectors” group, which acquired the company Ernteband at a price above the market price. The campaign has carried over 5.000 euros to the coffers of the youth groups with donations and support from the community foundation. Around 250 students gathered in the Albertville School Hall in January to collect the checks for their group projects. Incidentally, young people are also familiarized with the “orchard meadow” cultural heritage, which is one of the most species-rich habitats in Central Europe and of over 5.000 plant and animal species of outstanding ecological importance. Many thanks go to all collectors and supporters of this campaign for living sustainability.
